Design Highlight: Teresa and Louis's Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony

Design Highlight: Teresa and Louis's Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony

We are thrilled that Teresa and Louis have agreed to share some of their wedding photos which showcase a combination of Chinese traditional elements in a fresh modern style. The attention to detail and sophisticated and refined colour palette looks effortlessly elegant. Teresa notes "I wanted to include elements in the Chinese tradition especially for the tea ceremony, which would be familiar especially to our parents, grandparents, and extended relatives, but in a way that reflected my own tastes as a designer". She also had a mind to do so with a few key elements that would give maximum impact as hers was a destination wedding and she was careful about not over packing. "I invested in a few items like my dress, red auspicious elements like red pocket envelopes, wall art, most of which I have been able to keep and reuse over the years for festival days. I tried to buy things that I could keep. One thing that I wished we had would be a proper tea set for the ceremony, but as we were travelling, the red cups were simpler. Items that she recommends below:

  • find a comfortable qipao or cheongsam
  • red pocket envelopes
  • wall decals with double happiness symbols appropriate for weddings
  • a red sash
  • red parasol for photographs
  • a tea set or red paper cups
